The idea worked on paper. The only thing missing was one screen you could hand to someone.

The challenge
A new product always starts in the same place: a convincing deck and no evidence. Everyone in the room is sure it will work, and not one real person has tried it.
The challenge was not building the finished product. It was getting as fast as possible to a version you could put in front of people, instead of building for six months into the fog.
That means deciding early what will not go in, and nobody enjoys that part.
The only way to know whether an idea works is to hand it to someone
- 01Cut the idea downWhat is the one thing this product does. Everything else waits for the next version.
- 02Give it a faceName, visual language and tone. A product with no identity is hard to sell even when it works.
- 03Design the short pathFirst screen to the action, with nothing unnecessary in between.
- 04Actually build itFront and back in house, so we were never waiting on anyone mid-way.
- 05Ship it and measureA first version live, then watch what people genuinely do with it.

What was hard
The real difficulty was saying no. Every feature that goes into the first version pushes back the day you learn something true.
And with no users yet, every decision rests on judgement rather than data. Some of those turned out to be wrong, and we corrected them.
